Templeton CPA Committee Backs $330,000 Heroes Park Veterans Memorial for Town Meeting

Templeton's Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved a $330,000 warrant article to create Heroes Park at Houghton Park, a veterans memorial for service members from the Korean War through the Global War on Terror who have no existing monument in town. Applicant Jim Brio, a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, told the CPC that World War I and World War II veterans are already honored by name on precinct monuments, but that all who served afterward have gone unrecognized: "There's nothing for them." The full project is estimated at $400,000, with the $70,000 gap covered by private donations already being raised; any unspent CPA funds would revert to the $729,000 undesignated reserve. Parks and Recreation voted Monday, February 9, to serve as spending agent.

The committee also unanimously approved a $410,000 annual CPA appropriations article — built on a projected $285,000 local surcharge and a conservative $125,000 state match — and closed out the Narragansett Historical Society drapes restoration grant, returning $705.29 to the historic resources account. Both warrant articles head to the May 13, 2026 annual town meeting at Narragansett Middle School.
