Templeton's Select Board reached a consensus to pursue a tiered Proposition 2.5 override. Members said they would set the tiers April 6, ahead of an April 13 deadline to give the town clerk the ballot questions. Town Administrator James Ryan described a budget gap of about $3.5 million, including a school assessment increase of a little over $2 million.
Assessor figures showed a $1 million override adding 83 cents to the $11.87 tax rate, or $313.98 on the average bill; a $3 million override would add $945.72. One member said the board has "an obligation to put it to the voters." The board also reviewed a Town Meeting warrant, free cash uses totaling $559,673 and its animal control agreement with Winchendon, then voted 5-0 to enter executive session.
