Templeton Override Fails, Deeper Cuts Loom

Select Board · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Templeton override fails 929-809, forcing deeper mid-year budget cuts to police and fire. Select Board member Toth warned against repeating past practice of draining reserves, noting the town's general stabilization fund once fell to roughly $89,000 and currently holds about $25,000 against a multimillion-dollar budget. "But that's the mistake this town has made over and over and over again," Toth said.

In the same meeting, the board voted 5-0 to hold an executive session Thursday, October 1, on possibly dismissing the town administrator after his performance evaluation scored 85 to 91 out of 250, in the "unacceptable" range under his contract's Section 4B. Board member May told town employees facing layoffs, "I want to say sorry." The board also approved the October 21 special town meeting warrant, including a $68,000 cardiac monitor and AED purchase and an extended data-center moratorium.
