Templeton Planning Board voted 3-1 against extending the town's data center moratorium by 120 days. Vice Chair Charles Carroll opened the public hearing on the Fall Special Town Meeting warrant article, which proposed adding to the 360-day moratorium Town Meeting approved May 13, 2026. Director of Development Services Laurie Wiita told the board she is drafting data center zoning regulations modeled on Mansfield's, aiming to present them before the Annual Town Meeting in May, and called the extension a "safety net" unrelated to her drafting timeline.
The board also previewed statewide ballot Question 7, which would cut minimum single-family lot sizes to 5,000 square feet where water and sewer exist; one member said he didn't "need somebody from Boston telling us we need to put another 5,000 homes in Templeton." No board vote was possible on the ballot measure, which goes before voters statewide November 3.
