Finance Committee · Meeting of June 18, 2026

TEMPLETON — The Templeton Finance Committee warned residents to expect deep town budget cuts after Town Meeting approved a 12.5 percent increase in the Narragansett Regional School District assessment. Chairwoman Jacqueline MacCumbert said covering the increase, which exceeds the 2.5 percent the town said it could afford, would require "over a million dollars extra" not currently budgeted. The outcome now depends on Phillipston's own override vote June 30; Vice Chair Liz Toth said "Templeton is on the hook for that full whatever percent it is" if it passes.

Separately, the committee voted 4-0 to transfer $5,000 from its reserve fund to cover an insurance deductible after lightning struck and burned Scout Hall last year, and reorganized its leadership for fiscal 2027, keeping MacCumbert as chair and Toth as vice chair. Member Reese flagged a $20,000 insurance-fund overage and several unspent special-article accounts dating to 2019 during a review of the town's April and May budget-to-actual reports.
