Templeton Annual Town Meeting Set for May 13 With Override at Center

TEMPLETON — May 11, 2026 — Templeton heads into its annual town meeting Wednesday with a Proposition 2½ override vote as the centerpiece of a packed warrant. The meeting is set for May 13 at 6 p.m. in the Narragansett Middle School Auditorium, with a follow-up ballot vote on May 18 at the Narragansett High School Gym — both steps required for the override to take effect in fiscal year 2027. At prior Select Board sessions aired on TCTV, an official identified as Mr. Ryan told the board that a no-override budget would cut "eight full-time people, three part-time people, and then, obviously, all of the proposed ads," totaling roughly 11 or 12 positions, against a deficit described at approximately $2.19 million. Parks and Recreation would be zeroed out of the operating budget entirely under that scenario. Despite earlier reports, the board signaled it intends to keep the library and senior center open, citing grant exposure estimated at a 12.5 percent reduction in state returns. The warrant also includes Community Preservation Act articles for the Heroes Park Project and a new open space plan, senior cost-of-living and tax work-off amendments, an article to re-authorize TCTV's use of Cable Fund retained earnings after a prior vote was voided, and 12 citizens' petitions.
