Zoning Board Approves Dog Boarding Permit, Variance
Templeton's Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a special permit and a lot-size variance letting Sandra Adrian run a dog daycare and boarding kennel at her 132 Great Road home.
Zoning Board · Meeting of June 3, 2026
Templeton's Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a special permit and a lot-size variance letting Sandra Adrian run a dog daycare and boarding kennel at her 132 Great Road home. The board set hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for daycare and required boarded dogs inside by 8 p.m., with Adrian capping her own target at six dogs total. Member Dennis O'Brien moved the variance needed because the 1.941-acre lot falls short of the town's two-acre minimum for home occupations.
Neighbors, including one identified only as Paul, raised concerns about noise, nuisance complaints and loose dogs threatening nearby alpacas and chickens, with one saying "we have lost chickens more to domestic dogs than anything else." Adrian must still obtain a town kennel license and pass an animal-control inspection before the permit takes effect, after a 20-day appeal period.
