Templeton Health Board Tables Animal Bylaw

Board of Health · Meeting of May 5, 2026

Templeton Board of Health reviewed draft battery storage and tobacco rules without taking substantive votes. Health Agent Laurie Wiita reported regional respiratory illness activity "very low" and warned residents about ticks and mosquitoes. Members tabled a draft animal control bylaw meant for a future Town Meeting warrant, citing unresolved dog-versus-animal language.

The board continued reviewing proposed battery energy storage system regulations, including a recommended 150-foot setback from wells and septic systems and 100 feet from property lines, before routing the draft to the fire and police departments. Joan Hamlin of a regional tobacco control alliance urged a six-milligram cap on oral nicotine pouches and a fix to a 2018 drafting error allowing two conflicting retailer caps, warning some regional shops sold pouches with up to 18 milligrams of nicotine. The board approved its April 7 minutes unanimously and tabled a "smoke-free generation" tobacco ban amid pending federal preemption legislation.
